Whiston ancestors

As a new member to this web-site, am not sure if I'm going about this the right way but, I'm looking for any Whiston's or Russell's in or around Dublin.

Can anyone tell me how to look up details of my grandfather who was a compositor in Dublin in the early 1900's please?
He was also in Royal Dublin Fusiliers during 1st WW and I have his war medals, but that's all I know about him. Sadly, don't even know when he died but believe it was in 1930's.

Hi,

Do you know if he was born in Ireland? Have you looked for his birth in the indexes? As he was born post 1864, it should have been registered. These are available at the Dublin GRO (in person or Roscommon by post) or on film at your local family history centre. (Church of the latter day saints)

Failing that, check the Dublin Directories.
