1871 Key (have ref) please
« on: Tuesday 20 September 05 18:32 BST (UK) »
Would someone be kind enough to check out 36 Spring St, Paddington (which I think is Holborn in 71) RG10/386 f4-7?XXXX

Probably RG10/23 f69-71 ...sorry!

The family should be KEY or RATNETT (hairdressers)

Thanks in advance

Doreen

Thank-you both!  I wonder where mum was...Rebecca Key b1802 Northampton?  I suppose she might have gone to stay with one of her other daughters, as I know she was still alive til 1882. Does she show up on your index, by any chance?

regards
Doreen

Curious! I didn't know any of the Ratnetts were still in Northampton, and don't know which one he (James) is. I suppose he could be her brother James' son.  I guess I shall have to do some Northampton research for this lot!

Thank you for that extra info, I now have her all the way from cradle to grave (a rarity)  :D

Doreen

This is odd Doreen  ;D

In 1861 and stlil at 27 Bridge St,Northampton,is

James Ratnett 29 unm head b Northampton a stationer
Mary Turner 50 unm servant b Kettering.

So is this the same James? Or a different generation?

In 1871 he was mistranscribed at Ralnett.

Something for you to look at after the washing up  ;)

All the best

Carol

EDIT have just taken another look at 1871 and yes James is very clearly 28.
1 year younger than he was 10 years before !!! I like those sorts of birthdays  ;)

Ahh I see what you mean ;D

As the parents (that I think must be his) weren't married til 1829, I think he must have been born 1832ish (but he isn't on the IGI unless badly transcribed, drat!).

So, the 1861 is right & the 1871 is telling porkies (unless auntie filled the form in & forgot what she was doing).

cheers Carol

As I don't live far from Northampton I could look up 27 Bridge Street for you if you like. The road is still there, but I suspect it is now a shop or office building.
Not sure which way the road is numbered.

All the best
