Total cock-up on my part I'm afraid 

Listed the wrong date of birth (confused her with a different Harriet)

Actually she was born about 1870/71, which probably makes an 1861 search a bit superfluous. Very sorry to have wasted your time.

Could anyone look in 1871 in case she was born pre-census?

Patching is a famous name in Shoreham-by-Sea.  I used to live in the former home of the Patchings, built in 1893.

IGI has her baptism in Portslade on 25 July 1869,
 Parents John Marshall Patching from Henfield and Elizabeth from Pyecombe.

John Marshall Patching married Elizabeth Richardson at St Nicholas Brighton on 7th March 1865  (IGI)
