Hi, I have just found two matches for the marriage on  http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/I have run out of credit damn but my search was McCulloch Robert and Janet All Parishes Jan 1810 Dec to 1835 when you consider the childrens ages this makes sense for the wedding.

Hi

I checked Scotlandspeople, but only for the dates 1810 to 1822.

The first child born to Robert & Janet McCulloch was born in 1821 and was stated on OPR "lawful" ,thanks to ADP I know this means that they were married before this date.

I found one in 1815, but that was Robert McCulloch to Janet McNiven.

Thanks for the clue, I am now convinced that their marriage is not in the OPR'S .

Has anyone heard of the "wee Free" churches. A scottish friend here tells me they were different types of churches but she knows nothing about genealogy.  Maybe they were married in one of these?

thanks to everyone for their help so far - researching is very frustrating over here on the far side of the world.

The Church in Scotland split over several matters .... primarily over state interference in the Church .......

A history of the "Free Church" can be found at http://www.ufcos.org.uk/hista.htm

thanks for the web site, it makes interesting (if somewhat complicated ) reading.

The write up in the web site tells me that most of the actual churches in Glasgow seem to have been built well after 1822 and the church at Greenock which I thought might have been a likely one for my lot had all the records destroyed in the blitz!!

Is there anywhere Free church records can be searched? The LDS catalogue seems to be all Church of Scotland.

Hoping the following will be of interest and help:-

My wife's great-great-great grandfather was James Anderson who married Margaret Locke and lived in the Gallowgate, Glasgow.  He was a stone engraver.  His son, also James, was the one who married Ann McCulloch (we have she was born 8 December 1821 - confirmed by children's birth certificates).  They married on 2 December 1841 and were given as living at Old Parish, West Greenock, but we think perhaps only Ann lived there.  James and Ann spent their married life mostly in Strathbungo, a village which became incoroporated into Glasgow.  He became Superintendent of Tolls for the Renfrewshire Turnpike Trust.  Yes, their son John did die.  We have that they had 13 children, 3 of whom died.  Ann died 21 October, 1899.  James died 15 September 1886.  Incidentally, in the 1891 census of Govan, Ann Anderson (formerly McCulloch) is given along with her sister (aged 63) Jessie Russell.     Kind regards,  Albert W

Hi Albert

I am thrilled to hear from you. This is definitely the same family as I have all of these folk in my family tree program.

I have wondered for years if anyone else from the family was interested in Genealogy, but had no way of contacting current generations in Scotland.

I am assuming you are still living in Scotland?

I think you can access my email from this site, so I would love to keep in touch and share what we each have in our records.

I look forward to hearing from you again

Regards

Hi Noelene

My GG grandfather was James Anderson b 1822.My second name is Anderson. So Robert was my GGG grandfather.

My grandmother was Ann McCulloch Anderson.

I have just visited a cousin who told me of the Lock link. She lives in a castle and has a large portrait of,I think,Ann McCulloch b 1821.

Best wishes.
