Hello John and Christopher
I was intrigued to read about the gas lights and the Comans'. I to remember the gas lights being in my Granny's house not that they worked or indeed that I am that old but when "Electricity" came to town, my granddad put in the electric’s where the gas lamps used to be. That meant that when you went into the room, you had to run you hand along the wall to find the switch. Needles to say what the house was rewired, all was changed. As for the Comans, there are still plenty in town and I will be meet one on Tuesday. Can you give me any more information? Maybe I might find a relation or two for you. I will also call into a friend who will know more about the gas lighting I think that somewhere – not promising I may have a photo of the Gas works but I can certainly tell you where it was situated in town.
Cathy
