Rose Harsent Murder- Peasenhall
« on: Saturday 17 September 05 22:31 BST (UK) »
Anybody see the Julian Fellowes Investigates... on the BBC tonight?
An interesting insight into a 1902 Suffolk village. I must be getting too addicted to this genealogy . I looked up and found all the people involved in the case in the 1901 census. (most of them mistranscribed suprise surprise)
and there seems to be a relativeof the murder victim listed on GR. I wonder if they saw the programme?

Hi Gazza

Did you find the suspect Goodchild on the 1901 census? Would appreciate a lead on that - thank you!

Michael

It was Albert Goodchild who was arrested as a suspect but later released. Interestingly the 1901 census shows 17 year-old Rosie living with her grandmother in nearby Badingham and sharing the house with elderly David Goodchild and his wife, so maybe Albert was a relative. Thanks Michael

I watched the programme too and my first thoughts were to look them up on the 1901, and couldn't find any of them.

Did you watch the next one The Case of George Harry Storrs ?  Anyone find them on the census?

I live in America so I can't view these Julian Fellowes investigates.
Can some one in the UK provide me with a list of the episodes ?
From this board there is a mention of the Harsent Mystery and the Storrs mystery.
The only thing that these two have in common is that they are both chapters in  one of the greates true crime boks ever published.
"Great Unsolved Crimes"  published in the 1930s by Hutchinson & Co. Each chapter was provided by a different author, some of them famous - Dorthy L.Sayers, A.J. Cronin, Percy Hoskins, and others.
I have a copy here.
