Hi there
My gggrandfather was Samuel cunningham who was Andrew Cunninghams brother. Andrew and Samuels parents were Joseph Cunningham and Agnes Roxburgh. Josephs parents were Alexander Cunningham and Agnes Reoch. Agnes Cunninghams parents were John Roxburgh and Agnes Allan. All of the above mentioned people were born in Ireland and immigrated to Glasgow Scotland and some of the future children were born in Glasgow. Samuel died in India in 1862 serving with the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders. His son was only 2 at the time and he is my ggrandfather James Cunningham. Let me know if you have anything else I might help you with or maybe you have some information you can share.

regards

Heather

Hello Heather

Thank you for your message.   There may be a connection.   My James married Susan Anderson on 22 August 1873.   James' parents are listed on the marriage certificate as Andrew Cunningham and Agnes Brash.   That is as far as I have reached with my research, unfortunately I got distracted researching my McLachlan/McLauchlan ancestry.   I do believe that Andrew was born in Ireland but don't have any information to substantiate that.

Regards
Kathleen

Hello again Heather

Been looking through old messages from Rootschat and find I have Andrew age 26 born Ireland on the Old Monkland census 1851.   Also the 1861 census for Bridgeton Andrew is recorded as being born in Glasgow.   He must have changed to Glasgow to fit in I suppose.   Would love to share any information regarding the Irish connection with you.   I have found it very hard to discover any more information once you move into the Emerald Isle.

Regards
Kathleen
p.s. Are you the same Heather as Heather and Erin from Genes Re-united.

Hi there, yes same as on Genes Reunited
I definitely have information on your James and his father and grandparents, and yes that census showing showing born in Scotland is them, but the father(andrew) was born in IRELAND. I have found that many a time that they just have said they were from the city the census was being taken. Anyways, I will look up what I have and the names I gave you are correct. I will get back to you when I get everything together.

talk to you soon

Heather

Hello there.

Thanks for your posting.   I don't think Andrew, James' father went to Australia, however I can't be sure as I don't have his death certificate.   My mother Lindsay, daughter of Agnes, who was James and Susan Cunningham's daughter, talked of one of her uncles just going down to the docks at Glasgow and getting on a ship, to where I am not sure.    He apparantly returned to persuade some other members of the family to join him.   That's all I know for the time being, I will look for his death the next time I am searching Scotland's people.   Hope this is of some help.    Do you have any further information connected to Scotland.

Regards
Kathleen

Hi Kathleen
None of our Andrews married an Agnes's
the first Andrew (that we know of) was born in County Tyrone, Ireland 1803, HIS son Andrew Was born in Montrose, Angus, Scotland 1831
The father came out with all his children barr Andrew, who stayed to help his uncle and aunt, he finally came out to Aus when he was 18

On my fathers mothers side as far as I know she was born in Perth, scotland and came out here in 1912 or thereabouts
with her father William Alexander Esson
We have quite a few "family names" that we simply don't know where they came from argh!

Hello again

It is frustrating when you can't get a lead isn't it.    My Andrew is shown as being born in Ireland on the 1851 census, so you never know, could be a VERY distant relation.

Good luck with your searching.

Regards
Kathleen
