Good morning.. Just catching up.. Wonderful news Wexflyer.. I'll  check out thst date for the first marriage..
It does tally with the date he gave when requesting his mate cert to be reissued.. I can Confirm he did indeed live at the High-hill in New ross and first married to Margaret Whitty... Who lived basicly on John Street New Ross.. At bottom of the high hill and our home place. He was away at sea for at least two of the births of his children duri g this time.
His second wife was in early 20s while he must have by in 60's.. By the time of the 1901 census, James was in Liverpool toxeth..MARGARET was married in new ross to Edward Whitty and living on the bullawn.. Again not too far from the high hill.
Bridget was working as a domestic. Not quite sure whether here or in the UK. She never married and died back in Irelandim the Midlands.. The question of where George evitt came from is still uncertain.. Given he stated he was born in New Ross.. But  as I have his dad's name and occupation I ll have a root in time for him.. I wouid like to thank all who have given up some of their time to help..really appreciate this help as it helps to complete the search on the evitt side for now..

George Evitt has to be the E. G. male, age 68, born Co. Wexford, a sailor and a widower, in New Ross Workhouse in the 1901 census.

There is this child also Mary Evitt aged 11 living with an Aunt Bridget Furlong.

ETA There is also a Furlong on Wexflyers census list of the workhouse...Furlong is not an unknown/rare name though.

That is George's daughter, Mary, born 1890, with his second wife.

Also on this form there is a word under the word 'Widower' that looks like Bralston/Ralston.  It looks as though it is crossed out?

I aam afraid you are misreading. The crossed out word is "bachelor'

Ooops trying too hard!

The file on George relating to his Mate's Certificate has a specific date of birth for him - 14-Oct-1833, in New Ross. Note the Ancestry link for his certificate goes directly to the cert - there are multiple pages before that relating to him.

There is no corresponding Catholic baptism for him in New Ross that I can see.
Possibly born Protestant? Those records aren't online. There were CofI "Evatt"s in the county.
