This would suggest George and Margaret married before civil registration.

Thanks a million.. I do apperiate the replies.. Yes I have seen the birth certs of the children from the first marriage.. And have tracked them all.. It's just the actual the first marriage detials I can't find. Lol.. But will keep trying..

As you may know New Ross is right in the border with Co. Kilkenny so I did try to see if the marriage was registered in kilkenny or waterford... But no joy there.. So far at least

Registration started in 1864. (see my earlier post)
Therefore you will not find a registration (RC) before then

OK, so no joy so far. Possibilities:
1) New Ross extends across the river (not much, but a little). The Kilkenny side is not in the parish of New Ross, but Rosbercon. There is a gap in the Rosbercon registers around 1833.

2). Mistranscriptions. I have seen some bad ones already. Ebitt, etc.

3).Different variant of the name. Examples McKevitt, Kevitt, McEvatt, etc.

Cheers.. Yes the registrations were 1864 onwards.. I might try the actually records in the church.. As I live close to new ross.. Rosbercon is just across the bridge, which is where  maragert whitty (née Evitt) father was from.. Anyway thanks again.. Will drive on..

Here is another perplexing non-result. I don't see any Evitt/Evatt families at all in Griffith's Valuation, in counties Wexford and Kilkenny. None, as in zero. Makes me wonder if the family was really from there.

George "Evit" married Margaret Kavanagh in New Ross, 7/Oct/1856.

[From RootsIreland transcript. They have New Ross Marriages back to 1700s]

Considerably earlier than I had earlier searched and assumed.
Probably "missing" children in 1857-1863 period.
