Death of George Evitt in 1903. Reported age of 62, giving an estimated year of birth of ca.1841, which almost has to be incorrect as he married in 1856.

In 1867 George reported his age as 28, from New Ross, on a crew list, giving an estimated year of birth of ca. 1839

Is this the death of your George Evitt/Evatt?

https://www.irishgenealogy.ie/files/civil/deaths_returns/deaths_1903/05668/4596518.pdf

Died according this aged 62 in 1903.  But noting that this is not a self  filled out form! So born around 1841 so perhaps the dates we are looking for need to be expanded out a little to the 1840s as well. The marriage certifcate in June 1889 for his marriage to Mary Kirwan he names his father as John, a coachman and he states his age as 49 so born 1839/40.   Also on this form there is a word under the word 'Widower' that looks like Bralston/Ralston.  It looks as though it is crossed out?

Are you able to let us have the names of the children in date order please.  Some times this might give clues as to possible other family members whose trees/certificates may be more complete.

So far
Margaret 1864
Bridget born 1867
Mary 1869.
James 1871

I have Irish mariners in one of my trees and my experience is that the further away from home they are the vaguer the birth details are, which is logical....why say Shanreagh or Limavady when Londonderry or Ireland is the nearest place that people may have heard of.

He does however give the name High Hill in Margaret's birth certificate.  This may be his base with wife and children living there.

Here is another perplexing non-result. I don't see any Evitt/Evatt families at all in Griffith's Valuation, in counties Wexford and Kilkenny. None, as in zero. Makes me wonder if the family was really from there.

Yes I wondered that as well having done the same search.  Maybe the wives were from Wexford/Kilkenny and stayed close to their own families while George was away at sea.

The word Bralston/Ralston that I mentioned above intrigued me as Ralston is 'a big name', as they say here in NZ, in Antrim/Londonderry

ETA I am wondering if the surname was sometimes recorded as Everett/Evaritt etc.

I aam afraid you are misreading. The crossed out word is "bachelor'

Thanks.. The marriage to Mary Kirwan was his 2nd. Marriage in 1890.

As Wexflyer has pointed out in reply #1, the marriage was on 22 June 1889.

George "Evit" married Margaret Kavanagh in New Ross, 7/Oct/1856.

Well done Wexflyer
So George's birth in 1833 (as seen on his seaman's MATES certificate, and crew lists) would seem most likely.
His second wife was quite a lot younger, So George adjusted his age accordingly.

His address on that certificate is High Hill, New Ross, which is where daughter Margaret was born in 1864.
