Thanks Sue.

Had seen that one but have not been able to prove that is her as yet. One of the Imber children names their mother as Clara Jane Bough on a cert.

So, now acknowledging that Sydney William would be surnamed WILSON, not BATEUP, would this be his death?

WILSON Sydney William
31252/1956
William West
Eliza Jane
At PARRAMATTA

Hi ,
I put in some time during the Rootschat breakdown searching out material on the BATEUP matters.
If you go here https://mhnsw.au/collections/state-archives-collection/ and search using just the name Henry BATEUP, you will see a lengthy digitised document about Henry's bankruptcy in 1867
There is passing reference to wife and 3 children. he had lost his grocery business due to medical bills.

While you are there, Enter William WLSON carpenter, and you'll see bankruptcy documents for a man of that name in 1869. Lived in Garden st. Waterloo.
I don't know if these references are the right man or not.

Theft from William Wilson a carpenter living at 82 Palmer St in 1877

He and Eliza were at Palmer St when they baptised Florence their daughter in 1877.

ELIZA BATEUP actually place two "I intend to marry" notices.
1. 1882

The address she gave 13 Gordon Street, Darlinghurst

2. 1887

In 1887 Eliza was living at the same address as William WILSON.

As we know, no marriage took place. She died surnamed BATEUP.
Her address at death was 150 Reservoir St. Surry Hills, according to Funeral Notice.

Here is a later sighting of Henry BATEUP
Announcing his daughter’s marriage in 1885, Henry titled himself esquire!
He avoids mentioning his whereabouts ;D

Adding
re. the marriage announcement above.
I suppose we must consider the thought that he was well out of the scene at this time and had nothing to do with the marriage notice! Perhaps Lydia placed it herself or her intended's family. ;)

This looks to be William Wilson.
