Richard Fitzgerald Claddagh Clashmore Co Waterford

Hoping to source a Marriage for Richard Fitzgerald which was before Civil Reg. I found a birth of a son James Fitzgerald 1st Jan 1869 Registered in Youghal Co Cork giving father as Richard Mother Hester/Esther Atkins. Any help appreciated thank you

Here is James’ baptism which occurred 28th December 1868 - a couple of days earlier than his civil record.

If this is Richard in 1901, there are two daughters there.

There are several baptisms with parents as Richard and Letitia/Hetitia/Helen Atkin/s.

The 1901 census looks a bit odd
Claddagh - house number 2 with Richard Fitzgerald, 75 yrs widower - already posted
Claddagh - house number 4 with Hetty Fitzgerald, 61 yrs widow.

There is a niece, Henrietta in 1911 in that household though so Hetty might be Henrietta and not Hester as I was thinking.

You are probably aware of all this though.

I thought it was just a badly formed ‘t’ in James’ birth record but those civil births are also  Atkin - good point, Neale1961

 There are more children in 1859, 61 and 63, Catherine, William and Brigid. All in parish register.

William is divergent - mother Anastasia, but probably an error.

No sign of a marriage, which is strange. Registers in Clashmore an adjacent parishes cover the period. in question.

Thank you to Heywood Neale1961 Wexflyer for all the helpful information on the Fitzgerald family. The only birth I had was James. Richard Fitzgerald died 8th March 1907 informant a daughter Johannah Hickey who married Richard Hickey in 1895 in Clashmore. I have failed to locate a death for Richard Fitzgeralds wife her christian name Hester/Henrietta is a little puzzling.
