Morning  folks, a beautiful morning here in Essex, got plenty of washing  to put out, got carried away with sorting  out the scam I got and other things got left , if only the samners realised how disruptive it is.

Must admit I am being an ostrich  as regards the news, just hope everyone stays safe, my friends family are in the midst if it all, very sad.

Apart from thr human cost the damage to climate etc is going to be appalling .
How do madmen get into such positions of absolute power?

So many people caught up in it all, who sadly were just in the wrong place at the wrong time.

So what shall I watch tonight on the telly tonight?. Not an awful lot of interesting looking stuff- same old,same old!
But wait, almost in desperation I tuned in to BBC4. Even older, , but what a lovely change, going back goodness knows how many years, probably to the 1970s.
I spent the next hour with Call my Bluff and Face the Music
So relaxed and full of good clean old fashioned fun, bringing back long forgotten enjoyment and so easy to listen to, and the clear diction without wondering what on earth they were saying.

And before that was the programme about the Viking ship.
Then my daughter phoned so I did not see it,but she phones every Monday for  a good hour to 90 minutes .
Yes BBC English was necessary for all announcers ,newsreaders etc,
Some people complained when Wilfred Pickles had his quiz programme, he did have a Northern accent - deep u and flat a,but aitch sounded and crisp word endings too.
J.B. Priestly used to read his own  works sometimes ,and his accent was soft Northern but again well spoken.
I find Received Pronunciation strangled and artificial.

Viktoria, was the programme about the Viking ship about the remains at Sutton Hoo? If so I'd be interested to watch it. I read a book, fiction, about the discovery but I'm pretty sure the background to it was factually correct. Can you remember which channel it was on? I'll have a trawl through the TV guide to see if I can find it.

Thanks Mark. I Googled it and I think the one Viktoria referred to is Raiders of the Lost Past, about remains found in Norway. Both sound really interesting so will try and catch up on them.

I like the sound of those titles too … we visited Sutton Hoo a couple of years ago, they had a wonderful exhibition lent to them by The British Museum I think of beautifully crafted gold items inlaid with garnets.. so think I may pick up the programmes too.

What was the title of the book you read Roobarb?

Another week and warmer weather to cheer us up ..
My miniature daffodils are looking particularly bright this year and the hellebores are standing proud too..
Right decisions made by my Son and D-I-L about not coming this wk.. sad as it is but going to daughters at the w/e so will enjoy one another’s company and our two wonderful grandsons.

Hello All

Disappointing for you Caroline and family, but in any turmoil, being at home is the most safest place.

One of the nearest main towns, not too far from where I live, effectively had a weekend Curfew Order for 48 hours, it was a Dispersal / Removal Order, just a few weeks ago! 

I use to go to Birmingham Archive in the old Library two decades ago.

Trouble broke out, down off New Street (we could hear it and see Officers down one of the streets trying to contain it near New Street) and I asked a Police Officer the safest way to get back to the Station and he pointed towards the trouble and I said ... that looks like a location that should be avoided at all costs    .

I walked along and up the ramp off New Street and asked a person if there was trouble here and they said no, it has now gone off down that street (parallel with New Street).

On several occasions on the train, it was held up and boarded by Police looking for someone.

I'm a villager not use to this!
