Looking for help on Kenneth McKenzie of Boularderie (B ~1805, D 1869)
« on: Wednesday 25 February 26 02:07 GMT (UK) »
I'm descended from Kenneth & Jane McKenzie of Kempt Head, Boularderie Island, and have been working that filiy line for some time.
Kenneth b ~1805, died in 1869.  Jane b ~1806, was the daughter of John "Stonehouse" McKenzie of Pictou.  Kenneth was issued 2 land grants in the 1830's (I have copies) on Boularderie, and I assume he was residing on the property prior to that time.  Kenneth & Jane had 8 children;
Alexander, George, Helen, Duncan (the mason), Sarah, Flora, John and Christy.  I have ample data for tracing the children and their descendants (Canadian and US Census, marriage records, etc), but have no background information or hard birth date for Kenneth and only the Parent names for Jane. One assumption is that Kenneth came from Pictou, as did Jane.
To be clear, this Kenneth is not the son of Donald McKenzie who likely owned an adjacent property based on the 1861 Census.
   Any help would be appreciated

Robert MacKenzie
I do have AT and Y DNA test kits. No leads from the matches there.

Welcome to Rootschat!

I looked at Immigration from Scotland, and found an Alexander McKenzie who travelled with his family from Loch Broome in Scotland to Pictou Nova Scotia on the Hector in 1773. Could be the Father of Kenneth, who in turn named his first son Alexander.
Regards.

Thanks for the response.  Given the birthdate for Kenneth, I would expect his father's birthdate to in the 1765-1785 range.  More likely passenger Kenneth was his father than Alexander.  I will see what I can find WRT family tree for them.

A warm welcome from me too!

I haven’t been able to find any more info about Kenneth so far but am posting this photo that might be connected in case you haven’t seen it….

https://www.bihs.ca/

On the website…
Click on properties, then Kempt Head, then look for MacKenzie House and click on it.

We search for information but it is up to the thread owner to verify that it is correct.

@polarbear
  I have reviewed all of the BIHS holdings and have seen that photo. While I see information on one of Kenneth's sons, there was nothing on him.  I  tried to contact the BIHS  for more information with no response.  I've since heard that while the website is still up, the group is no longer active.
 I looked on Google Maps in the area where Kenneth was issued 2 land grants and did not see any structures that appear to be similiar. to the photo.
   If anyone has additional information, plesase shout out.

Thanks!
