Parrett.Wife dies, new one taken.1932+
« on: Saturday 17 September 05 01:05 BST (UK) »
Hi,
Could a kind friend look at the death date for -
Martha Parrett (nee Daniels).  Mother's Maiden name - Hannah Gow. Father John Daniels.

I have always believed it to be 1932, Melbourne.  However, a relative whom I have recently discovered thinks it was 1939, Melbourne.

This same relative has also told me of the remarriage of Alfred Arthur Parrett -(Martha's husband )to -

Julia Rosini Smith.  Mother's Maiden Name Brenchley?
I would very much like a date for this marriage which obviously must post date the Martha death. Thanks to all.  Sue

Hi Sue,

As Sleat says the searchable marriages go only to 1942.

In case you don't have them the following might be of interest?
Martha's widower Alfred
*PARRETT Alfd Arthur, father Geo James, mother MASON, died age 84 in 1953 at Fitzroy #2207

Alfred's father?
PARRETT Geo Jas, father Parrett Robert, mother Eliza unknown, died age 82 in 1922 in Richmond #14619

Alfred's second wife
*PARRETT Julia Rosina, father Smith Edward, mother Julia BRENCHLEY, died age 83 in 1969 at Heidelberg #24913

Two of Alfred and Martha's children
*PARRETT George Alfred Ja, father Alfred Arthu, mother Martha DANIELS, died age 79 in 1969 in Burwood #22485
*PARRETT Albert Rupert, father Alfred, mother Martha DANIELS, died age 87 in 1979 at MTMA (possibly Mt Martha) #18650

Two of Martha's sisters:
*DANIELS Jeannie, father Daniels Jno, mother Hannah GOW, died age 67 in 1923 at Brunswick #13746
*DANIELS Mary, father Daniels Jno, mother Hannah GOW, died age 59 in 1934 at Port Melbourne #7020

Do you have the marriage of Martha's parents, Martha's birth, and births and deaths of other siblings in Victoria - there are quite a few?

Certificates can be downloaded (for a fee) at:

Dear Jap,
I am flabergasted!!( I also hope I can spell it)
I did have the 3  children of Martha and Alfed Arthur and the other bits and pieces.
HOWEVER, I never thought to seek out Martha's birth or siblings of Martha or the marriage of her parents which I thought took place in Eng, although, I never had much success with a definite entry.
I do think that Alfred and Martha were married in Castlemaine, NSW.
Are you saying that it is all at bdm?
I am very grateful for your help.

I wonder whether you could offer any advice on this .
Alfred Arthur (according to verbal history) arrived in Adelaide  around 1884 as a stowaway. How do you think he would get Australian citizenship in those days?  Thanks again.  Sue

Hi again Sue,

From the Pioneer Index:

*John DANIELLS (sic) m Hannah GOW 1856 #2852

They had:
*Jane DANIELS b 1856 Portland #13327R (the 'R' means there has been a change made - in this case it seems she was probably born before the marriage as there is also an entry for Jane GOW, mother Hannah GOW b 1856 Portland with the same ref number)
*Catherine Maria DANIELS b 1858 Portland #7679
*John DANIELS b 1860 CAST (this could be Casterton or Castlemaine but likely to be the latter given other entries) #9964
*Robert DANIELS b 1862 CAST #13431
*Emma DANIELS b 1864 CAST #13939; died age 1 1866 CAST #790
*Martha DANIELS b 1866 CMAINE #13663
*Ralph DANIELS b 1868 The Loddon #22192
*Lillie DANIELS b 1870 CAST #21947; died age 2 weeks in 1871 CAST #526
*Frederick William DANIELS b 1872 CAST #1248
*Mary DANIELS b 1875 CAST #7665
*Hannah DANIELS b 1879 Loddon #21805
There's also
*Ak DANIELS died age 14 in 1886 CMAINE #751 - given the age this is probably a mistranscription of Frederick.

*Hannah DANIELS, father Gow Robt, mother unknown, died age 70 in Castlemaine in 1907 #11635
(There's a Hannah GOW, father Robert in the IGI b 1837 in Dundee, Angus, Scotland - wonder if that's Hannah!)

Well, I think that's enough for now.  Do you have access to the Victorian CD indexes?  If you are near an LDS FHC in Australia, they normally have them.

Incidentally, there wouldn't have been any such thing as Australian citizenship in 1884 (federation not having happened until 1901).  Before that places such as SA, NSW and Vic were colonies of Great Britain.  And Victoria, until separation was approved in 1850, was part of NSW.

Regards,

JAP

Hi again Jap,
wonderful information.   A whole new branch has opened up.

I don't know why I didn't think of your reflections on the citizenship issue.  Of course that would be the case.  Many thanks. Sue
