I have a few tailor Qvarnströms in Finland in the church books. They may well be related.

Unfortunately we have very little information.  As far as we know Carl was born in St Petersburg sometime between 1850 and 1855.  All our info is from censuses and marriage.  When he married in London in 1891 he was 37, born ca 1854, father Peter, a tailor , deceased.  1891 census, dob 1854, in St Petersburg, Russia.  1901 census dob 1854, Russia (Swedish subject).  1911 census  dob 1855 Russia. 1921 census dob Jan 1850, Petrograd.  Died in 1928 at age 78.  Never used a second name.  The surname was anglicised first to Quarnstrom, then to Quanstrom

He is pretty consistent about where he was born and that he was Swedish.  Finding any trace of him is another matter!

Thanks again

Ok, great.
His father may well have come from the Swedish part of Finland. I'll dig around and see what pops up.

I am sorry to say but I haven't been able to find anything on this Carl. I have checked the birth books in St. Petersburg but he doesn't seem to be there.
I've even checked for a father Peter but no go.

Thanks very much for trying - he is definitely a puzzle.  I will have to put him on the back burner again, and maybe sometime in the future something to help identify him will come along.
