Thanks to everybody for answering, and many thanks to Ladyhawk for the Beano link! I had never heard of that! The vehicles in the photos in the link are gorgeous. And it would appear that the flowers in the gentlemen's buttonholes would be typical for a Beano. If we could see an accordian in the photo, the answer would be complete.  ;)

You learn something new every day.  ;D

(Sorry for the delay in replying, but I couldn't get in - RC kept saying "Database Error"...)

Thanks again!
Karen

I have had this Database error all day and one of the mods on the NZ board is getting someone  to look at it.  Seems to come up inconsistently and the methods I've had to use to get back in have also been inconsistent....sometimes one thing works, next time it doesn't.

Beanos were a regular thing when I was a child, you would often see a coach loads  at a half way house stopping the off for a pint or to, no doubt a few were worse for wear when they  staggered home.

Thanks for that! At least it's not just me!  :D

I can now access this thread, but not my "Wedding atire, 1932" thread.  :-[ And I can only access this thread by clicking on the link in the notification E-Mail. If I just click on "FORUM", I get the "Database Error" message. Unfortunately, the link in the E-Mail re: the wedding atire thread doesn't let me in...
As you say, inconsistent!

I've asked sarah (mod) for help...

Thanks again,
Karen

I think they possibly work on an estate or live in the same village.  From the flowers in their lapels I guess they intend visiting a local hall for a gardening competition.    In my files is a 1700s newspaper article about the winners of various flower/vegetable categories.  Winners mentioned were a Lord, a Major and gardeners, which shows that some estate owners did know their employees.

Interesting! Never heard of a Beano before!!! Noted the range of headware...& the number of men smoking.
re: site issues... I've often have messaged people that their notification may have turned itself off when the site got busy! (Most often the reason, as they'd not seen the replies)  Twenty some years ago it was just that the site was so popular & busy with requests!!!

Hi,

I was receiving E-Mail notifications, but couldn't even access the threads via the links in the E-Mails. Well, most of the time. And then RC shut me out completely. Whatever I clicked on, it just said "Database Error".
I couldn't log out, either.
I contacted the website via Google, left a message, and hey presto! Today I'm back in. I didn't get a message or E-Mail to say what had happened, but the main thing is that I'm back in.  ;D
