Marriage details wilson and Copley moneenroe
« on: Sunday 15 February 26 19:21 GMT (UK) »
Hi all, I'm. Trying to find any details of a marriage of a William Wilson to a Mary copley in the very early 1800s in an area called moneenroe, Co. Kilkenny. Possibly in Castlecomer area.. I can see some births of their children but I can't seem to locate their own marriage details.. Any help or pointers would be greatly appreciated.

What denomination?

If RC, John Grenham’s website indicates that Moneenroe is in the RC parish of Castlecomer.  Baptism records there start in 1812 (with some gaps) but marriages don’t start till 1830, so if that’s where your couple married in an RC ceremony, there are no marriage records to find. But if another denomination I'll search again.

According to my guide to Church of Ireland records, Castlecomer has baptism, marriage & burial records from 1799 onwards. Originals are in the RCB library in Dublin. Some years are on the rootsireland site (it doesn’t say which years).

So for a thorough check you would need to get someone to go to the RCB library and look the records up. Bear in mind that tradition was to marry in the bride’s parish, after which she’d normally attend her husband’s (assuming it was different) so if she came from a different parish she may not have married in Castlecomer. But their children would be baptised there.

Just choose Kilkenny to see what years are covered.
