James Webb Cambridgeshire
« on: Wednesday 04 February 26 12:02 GMT (UK) »
Hello everyone,
I have a dilemma with an ancestor, James Webb born 1844 in Cambridgeshire.

My problem is that there are two James Webbs born in 1844, both in steeple Morden.

One I can find on the census as an ag lab age 17 with parents William and Ann Webb.
And another I can find on the census age 17 ah lab with parents James and Kesiah Webb.

I have various suggestions on my ancestry tree, but I know it's not good to trust other peoples trees on there.

I have tried looking for steeple Morden parish records but I havent had any luck. And freebmd only goes back to 1837.

Can anyone give me any advice on how to deal with a dilemma like this?
I'm not sure how the correct James can be confirmed if they are both born the same year, and I'm not sure that looking at other records would confirm anything or help differentiate the two.

Thanks
Kind regards

One married Sarah Newman on 6.12.1863 - presumably the one with parents William & Ann as the other is single in 1871 & living with widowed mother Kezia

Both are on the 1861 census on freecen.

I presume James married at some point, the names of his children, if any, may give some sort of naming pattern?

Thank you all for looking and for the advice about the marriage certificate.

I have the 1844 James Webb on the census with an Ellen as wife and 2 children who were born in Yorkshire.

I'm pretty sure this is my ancestor James, as one of the children is a David Webb which ties in with my records.

So would you suggest that I order the marriage certificate for James and Ellen to see the fathers name?

Kind regards

His marriage to Ellen Matthews in 1878 is available on Ancestry to view. His father is James (believe his mother is Kezia Wade )
