A death for William Weatherson

According to his family’s gravestone, William Weatherson died on 23 June 1840 aged 23, and was later buried on 26 June. However I can’t find a matching death record on GRO or FreeBMD in that time period.

That can’t be the right person - he was 74 years old.

The age adds up correctly, according to baptism he was born 22 September 1816 which would make him 23 in 1840.

Can’t put past the potential for error of course though.

According to the gravestone he died on the 23rd June and according to Family Search he was buried at Rothbury on 26th June, which doesn't give much time from him to be transported back home, unless he died in Scotland.

The other possibility is that the death simply wasn't registered. It did happen from time to time.

FreeBMD has a very low number of death registrations in Rothbury RD in June quarter 1840, only 7.

Unfortunately there are no BTs after 1837 for images, but FamilySearch index these burials at Rothbury from the parish registers
