Lowestoft Fishing Records

I'm trying to trace more information on my GGF Peter Walker. According to police records he had a smack-master certificate no 2147 issued in Lowestoft. It was probably issued before 1892 - as the birth record of one of his sons shows that Peter was a Smacksman.  I'm just wondering if any official records of his certificate exist, and whether they can shed any light on his actual age and place of birth.

Can’t help with the certificate but the 1881 census has a Peter Walker aged 21 b Liverpool on a vessel “Sea Flower” in Suffolk occ seaman

There is an 1882 marriage on freebmd to Florence Gertrude Swan.  Florence was b 1858 Mutford

(The other couple on the same page were Plant & Duffield & can be found in 1891)

1901 shows Florence with various children - wife of seaman
1911 married - occ laundress
1921 married no occ

Is he on the 1911 census as a boarder in Pembrokeshire or is that someone else?

It does say both for Welsh/English speaking

Which sons birth record are you referring to in your opening post?  When & where was that son born?

Is his mothers name Florence Gertrude nee Swan on the birth cert?

Need to be sure the details posted relate to the right family

Carole.  Most of the information relating to Peter Walker has been verified apart from the actual date and location of birth and death, or his parentage. I was hoping to track down an official record of him being issued with the Smack Master's certificate.

 The Liverpool parents  Walker / Blackburn are guesses at best.  His marriage to Florence Gertrude Swan and their children are all verified.
 
1911 welsh census has a Peter boarding in house as a deep sea fisher man.- status married. Given the discrepancy over his DOB from Marriage Record, Census returns and Prison record. There is nothing to confirm that this is 'our' Peter.  Census indicates that Peter spoke English and Welsh - which gives some credence to him actually having been from Wales rather than Liverpool

1915 register of electors - a Peter is registered at 5 Brooke Ave - Milford Haven

Marriage certificate for his son Peter Robert Walker states that father (also Peter Robert Walker) was deceased. (1915) - however given the bigamous marriage he may well have been told that his father had died!  It's the only reference I have that his father Peter may have had a middle name

Marriage record for his youngest son Richard Victor Hugh Walker in 1920 does not mention that his father Peter is deceased.

The 1921 Census of England, Wales, IOM, Channels Islands and Scotland have failed to unearth a Peter Walker of the  correct age (+/- 5 years) who was a fisherman / sailor.  It's probably safe to assume that Peter had died prior to 1921.

It puts the  following records into question - and also whether it was actually 'Our' Peter who was in the 1911 census at Milford Haven

1924 register of electors a Peter is listed at John Cory Sailor's Rest and Bethel, Charles St, Milford Haven
1926 register of electors a Peter Walker at 15 Marblehall Terrace, Milford Haven - renting one furnished room.

I imagine that you have the newspaper reports about the bigamy case in Dundee (1902), but have you seen those for the accidental deaths of children in 1885 and 1892?
