Diary summary week ending 1st February 2026
« on: Monday 26 January 26 08:37 GMT (UK) »
 Morning all
Hope I got the date right, have been known not to?

It is very dull this  morning  but dry, washing in but not sure if it will go out to dry, I like it to get some fresh air.

Yesterday  I went to a confirmation service in our deanery, was nice to see quite a few young people being confirmed , a very nice service led by our Bishop.

January is always a long month, can't wish time away  but it seems to drag .

We have a busy week with appointments  but I am hoping to squeeze a day out on Wednesday with a friend,  we never know where we are going till we get on the first bus to the terminus,  then decide where to go, does all depend  on the weather but at the moment Wednesday  looks like   fine day.

Hope all is well with everyone.

Indeed LM the week ending will be the first day of February! January seems to disappear fairly quickly for me rather than drag, often a lot going on but then perhaps would think otherwise if I was trying to hurry up Spring  ;) :D

Cheers for the new week, be well all ...

Good morning to all..
Well another wet and miserable looking week to come for the end of what’s been a pretty grim January… definitely won’t be sorry to see the back of it unless Feb turns out to be the same!

Mare I’m assuming that you and all your family are not in any of the areas that have suffered from the storms?

My Son has many friends living in NZ that I know he’s been worried about, so hope you and yours are all safe.

On the bright side our aconites are looking very pretty and a neighbours snowdrops are nearly flowering and will be a beautiful show.. don’t know what’s happened to ours..

You’ll have to laugh, or maybe not, we lit our wood burner the other evening and I started to notice smoke coming into the room and not up the chimney…
we had to rush around opening the front door and lounge windows creating a thru draught to get rid of it all…
not what you want in the wind… logs taken out and into a bucket of water put on the patio…
The smell of smoke was awful so let’s door and windows open for a while to get rid of it all..
Cause?… wind blowing SE and comes straight down the chimney.. OH didn’t think it would be that bad, hey ho such is life but it certainly made us sprint about to get rid of the smoke 😂😂.

I’ve finally made some progress on the Lloyd side of my mothers family.. I had a big black hole but now a third cousin whom I didn’t know must have just done a DNA test and we’ve had lots of communications and he’s able to fill in all the gaps.. not bad when you think how many John Lloyds there are! Very satisfying.

Well it’s only 6 wks now until we see our Son for the first time in 6 years.. can’t wait it’s such a long time. Thank goodness for FTime otherwise I’d have forgotten what he looked like… the thought of the communication we had when he left 23 years ago, no visuals, delayed conversations on the phone we’ve certainly come along way.. thank goodness.

We’ll work to be done so must get on as Viktoria would say can’t sit here drinking coffee all day!

Take care everyone

Caroline,  I would give almost anything for a fire smell in our house from a nice fire in the grate,  next door adjoing through our walls we can smell whatever they vape or smoke, it is unbearable, the rooms with adjoing walls suffer, when I go to bed I put a smelly  ointment under my nose, otherwise I can't sleep, not a good sleeper at the best of times,  fortunately  my husband can't smell it, there is nothing you can do about it I am led to believe, we are both very quiet people and I certainly would not like to upset the neighbours,  of all the people to live next door to it is them,  the man of the house , I think, retired in September and that is when it became worse. Lived in this house 60 years this April.

Doesn’t time fly quickly when you are older!
It only seems like yesterday ,yesterday—

Dull but fairly mild day today.

Must renew my insurance on the dratted mobility scooter.
It still has only 0.6 miles on the clock!
Oh I hate the dratted thing ,many regrets there but had I got the pacemaker earlier I might not have needed a scooter.
I worked out once how many return taxi journeys to Ramsbottom shops it would pay for,£8 a return journey ,I think it is 750,but of course I have my bus pass but was not really well or confident enough just after the last drama
to use a bus , had the pacemaker been in place I might not have been advised to get as many aids as possible to be independent and mobile .
I have a little walk to and from bus stops which got difficult especially with shopping ,son is very good but has to get back to his work so I can’t linger or have a coffee with someone I might meet by chance for a coffee and chat .
But I do get to church as I have posted and our Ladies’ Group is restarting in the mornings ,so daylight getting home and no drunks on the streets .
I am looking forward to that.

Some in RootsChat are very isolated I know.
What would we do without R.C.!

Look after yourselves folks ,we mean a lot to each other.
Viktoria.

Hi All

I have taken so long typing this that Mare, Caroline and L.M., have posted, so I will read later.

ADDED:
And Viktoria 1 minute just before I went to save a 2nd time.

Louisa, Just going to the Bus Terminus and getting a bus that takes you to an unplanned place is interesting, but a Summer / good weather escapade now, for me.

Does anyone remember being so excited when we got the 1881 Census on a load of CD ROMs (about the year 2000) and you had to book to see them due to the high demand.

You have reminded me to get my TV Licence.

I don't go in person to our Meetings, I get the vision and sound down the phone wire, there is enough Winter germs circulating to keep the immune system challenged.

I can also get Scientific seminars, to get the very latest thinking into medical conditions of the brain and digestion system.

I was given very bad news 25 years ago this March and have past the longest life expectancy 5 years ago for this condition!

Since 2001 I have been looking for the latest information on natural nutrients and the basic workings of the body, including how and what nutrients can stimulate regrowth, renewal of cells and neurons and what foods and all the medications to avoid.

I have to admit I'm a boring geek at times who always did his Homework in full, we were taught Science by a proper Scientist and he made lessons so interesting!

Our Physics and Geography Teachers at School were also brilliant.

I have recently gifted two metres of shelved books to two Air/Aviation Archives and also the Air Ambulance Shop.

One is probably the only known surviving Copy of the Air Force Regulations (about 3,800 Regulations) for that year and was gifted to an Air Museum. Sadly the binding was damaged and the cover was marked on purchase (it looked to have been well consulted by the Officer), so they wanted some photos of the cover, the binding and the pages inside and the Museum Committee decided to accept it.

The late Officer's Name was on the cover, so they had some research on him I had done as well.

As a young man I was one of those who said why or how does this work, always questioning everything and trying to find out information and alternatives.

When I was a Teenager, I'd have my head stuck in Haynes Manuals and Official Ford Manuals and doing my own car repairs, engine overhauls, but have avoided all that from the late 1990s.

Still very tired, nausea gone from last night, had a Breakfast Tea, a small Red wine a Kiwi Fruit then several hours more sleep til about 9:30 am and just had a Heated Organic Milk drink from lightly roasted ground Cacao beans.

I'll have a Ginger Green tea now, some walnuts, one piece of 90% Dark Cacao Chocolate, another Kiwi Fruit, full of natural Vitamin C, also K and E with potassium and anti-oxidants and wash a few strawberries and Blueberries and make a bit of porridge from my organic oats.

Take care all, Mark

Surprise, surprise!  It's raining again here in the South-west!  Tonight's choir practice has just been cancelled because of the weather.  Several of our members don't live in the village and roads round here have already been flooded.  Actually I'm quite glad not to have to turn out on such a nasty evening, but we are supposed to practising for a concert at a local hospital in February.

I had made a chicken and vegetable casserole for tonight's meal - just one pan to be washed up.  Any leftovers will be made into a tasty soup for lunch tomorrow.  We don't have puddings any more, just fresh fruit, but I do miss them.  Queen of Puddings was one of my favourites. Mm..!  ;)

Good morning all from a wet ,& windy leicester UK

Ive not posted on this board for a while .january has been depressing due to weather & 1 personal issue

On the plus side my mother aged 95 has been able to move back into her house after last year s flood & got her exhorbitant car.insurance reduced dramatically by adding my sister to her policy

Insurers dont like people who have had last car written off due to flood water & they dont like elderly drivers .
I thought she might give up driving ,& use taxis & bus but living in a village & highly independant she decided to keep driving in 2025 ,& this year too. Perfect eyesight & heart so no reason not to

Local TV interviewed her a year after the flood . My sister appeared on the clip too looking at photos they.d taken every week of the clear up progress

Shes driving me to leicester museum.tomorrow where there is an exhibition of local peoples art ..including childrens categories .

I'm very impressed at your mother brigidmac, still driving at 95 is quite an achievement. I hope you've both enjoyed the exhibition.
