USA Newspaper Archives
« on: Saturday 24 January 26 17:20 GMT (UK) »
I have old notes given to me by a distant relative now deceased. My own research has found these notes to be accurate so far. I have a missing relative, a Robert Roberts, son of Robert and Marjery Roberts, born Nov 1805 in Ysbyty Ifan,Denbighshire. The notes state that he went to the USA and when planning to return to the UK he wrote to his father saying he was "getting his provisions together and would return shortly". He was never seen again. His family are said to have advertised in the US newspapers for news of his. My question concerns US newspaper archives from the early 1800's. Where can I view them online?

There are various places such as https://www.loc.gov/collections/chronicling-america/#tab=tab_advanced_search

But you might find it difficult to narrow down the search given how many Robert Roberts there are.

Sadly I don’t. The notes I have don’t state when he went but I’d imagine he’d have been at least 16/18yr old.

There is a large collection of digitized newspapers (mostly but not all from New York) at Fulton History.  It's free.
