The Keen family from Stoke Lyne
« on: Wednesday 14 January 26 11:46 GMT (UK) »
My mothers name was Keen. A lot of her family came from Stoke Lyne and I have found some in the baptism records. What I would like to know is where they lived prior to Stoke Lyne. Any assistance would be gratefully received.
Here are some names and dates.
Arthur Thomas Keen 1887 Elizabeth Rowley 1893
Thomas Keen 1834   Elizabeth Cook 1855
Thomas Keen 1805   Mercy West 1812
Thomas Keen 1760   Ann Matson 1767
Thanks
Gaj

You have not said WHAT the names and dates refer to.
You have not said WHERE the names and dates come from.

I suggest you start to look on Family Search (free access to all records) to look for your family and ancestors. Births, marriages, deaths and census records will guve you places of abode.

It seems you already know the answer to your question. You have posted several times on other threads, and your Ancestry tree confirms that.

My mother was a Keen and I have managed to trace a few of my relatives from Fewcott and Stoke Lyne. My Grand father was Arthur Thomas Keen 1887 from Bicester. His father Thomas Keen 1834 Stoke Lyne, His father was Thomas 1805 who married Mercy West. His father Thomas 1760 married Ann Matson. I went through the book of baptisms and wrote down all the Keens. I have it in a spreadsheet if that would help.
I'm on Ancestry if you want to see my tree.

My mother was a Keen. Her father's family was from Stoke Lyne. I have  a photo if you are interested. I have pictures of all my aunts and uncles too. I dont have anything earlier than my grandfather.
This is the line.
Joan Keen - my mother
Arthur Thomas 1887 Elizabeth Rowley 1893 - my grandparents
Thomas Keen 1834   Elizabeth Cook 1855 - my great grandparents
Thomas Keen 1805   Mercy West  1812 - my great great grandparents
Thomas Keen 1760  Ann Matson 1767  - my great great great grandparents

I went through the baptism records of Stoke Lyne and pulled out all the Keen entries. I have them in a spreadsheet if you are interested.

Hi there. I've just started looking on this site. My mother was a Keen and I would be very interested to share information with you. Ann Matson was my 3rd Great Grandmother. There were then a load of Thomas' until you get to my grandfather Arthur Thomas.
I have a tree on Ancestry and I have had a DNA test. It would be great to hear from you.

Hello again.
Sorry for the confusion, I am new to this forum and still fumbling my way through genealogy.

Arthur Thomas 1887 Elizabeth Rowley 1893 - my grandparents - Birmingham
Thomas Keen 1834   Elizabeth Cook 1855 - my great grandparents - Stoke Lyne
Thomas Keen 1805   Mercy West  1812 - my great great grandparents - Stoke Lyne
Thomas Keen 1760  Ann Matson 1767  - my great great great grandparents - Stoke Lyne

Going through the baptisms for the Stoke Lyne area I could see the family progression fairly clearly. My difficulty comes prior to Thomas Keen 1760. It seems that there were quite a few Thomas'.
In my Ancestry tree I accepted hints that suggest that they may have come from the Swindon area but that is speculation. I think there are others from further north.
I'm not sure how to proceed.
Any help is welcomed.

My tree is on Ancestry if you want to compare.
I've also got my DNA with GedMatch.
Swindon is a good contender.

No. I don't have that record.

To be honest, this is something I mainly do in the winter months. Initially I only wanted to find cousins on the Keen side! It has got bigger!! So, initially I wasn't interested in going back too far but as time has gone on and I started to get DNA matches, it has been necessary to go back further.

It's only now that I'm delving further back. I have gone back through the baptism records on Ancestry. I found by scrolling through the pages I could get a complete picture of baptisms, but I've not done the same thing for marriages.

I also find it quite difficult to get my head around some of these things. Ancestry has provided me with quite a few useful hints and other peoples trees have been useful, but I've also found they can be completely wrong on a monumental scale!

Any thoughts you have or assistance would be welcomed.

I'm still finding my way round the site too.
