dear all,
I am try to view the parish reg. Baptisms at St. Andrew's, Plaistow to search for any extra information/ clues for my Grandfather: Henry George Evans, born 23-06-1918, Plaistow, Mother Annie Evans. He next appears in the 1921 Census at Central Home, Leyton, West Ham, aged 2 years 8 months, parents deceased.
I have been informed that he was baptised at St. Andrew, Plaistow in between these 2 dates on 09-05-1919 and am hoping that there may be some wonderfully tantalising clues on this baptism entry i.e. a fathers name or any witnesses  ::)
The Essex register office wants me to throw oodles of cash at them before I can even see if the entry even exists  :-\ So I am hoping that there is another option to view the St. Andrew parish reg for baptisms ,,,,,, any suggestions ?
all the best Petey  ::)

Just curious, do you have his birth certificate or does the date of birth come from something else

Who told you he was baptised on 9.5.19 & how do they know if it’s not online?

There are only 2 other ways such a specific date would be known & that’s either by the person having the original certificate or by viewing the original record.

If either of those examples apply - the person should be able to tell you whether there was any info about his father.

EDIT - FOUND ON FS

If a father was named on the entry - it would presumably appear on the above transcription

Hi Carole,
I received the date of the baptism some time ago from someone on Genes-reunited, but unfortunately they no longer are active on that site. The thought of extra information only came to me only recently.
I hadn't looked on Family search and agree that the Fathers name would have been mentioned so I can only hope that a witness is named ,,,,,,

Baptisms were not witnessed in the way marriages are.  Catholic baptisms show god parents names etc but the C of E ones generally just show the date of baptism & in some cases the actual birthdate.

They show the name of the parents & in the case of an illegitimate birth some churches will show her as unmarried or as a “single person”. Then it’s just the name of the person performing the baptism
