DEROLES
« on: Wednesday 07 January 26 06:29 GMT (UK) »
John DEROLES was born 4 July 1859 in Brighton, Sussex, parents John and Eliza. Baptised at St Nicholas, Brighton on 17 July, father a Purser in the Navy.

Can find his birth reg on FreeBMD but not on the GRO website index.

When his mother Eliza died in Jan 1861 she was a widow, so father John has died between early 1859 and end of 1860. Nothing showing up anywhere for a death, but if he was in the Navy then he might have died somewhere other than England.

In 1861 John was a nurse child, and in 1871 at school. In 1881 he left England for New Zealand, where died in 1934.

There was an older sister Eliza/Lizzie born 1854 in Paddington, London. Can find her in the various census records and she died in Wimbledon in 1937. In 1891, as Lizzie DEROLES, she was in the household of Francis and Emilie WILMOT in Paddington, London. She is indicated as a cousin aged 35.

Can anyone find a marriage anywhere for John and Eliza, or is he just a smokescreen and she was never married. One tree on Ancestry shows her maiden name as EADES but can find nothing on that name either.

An Eliza E DEROLES born 1826 shows up in the 1851 census in St Giles in the Fields, but not sure if that is her or not. She is a widow, born Somerset.

Hoping someone can assist.

Thanks

Thanks Comberton. Just got the image and that is him.

Image is not very clear and mmn could be Eeles, Eales, Edes or Eades.

Father's profession is consistent in everything.

In 1891, as Lizzie DEROLES, she was in the household of Francis and Emilie WILMOT in Paddington, London. She is indicated as a cousin aged 35.

Francis WILMOT and Emilie VAUGHAN married in 1870.  His father was Foley WILMOT, Gentleman, and hers was Phillip VAUGHAN, Gentleman.

Married Francis WILMOT 1870.

Emily VAUGHAN could be a niece of Eliza DEROLES, and therefore the cousin of Eliza DEROLES the daughter in 1891.
