Astley Terrace, Melton Constable

       Hi everyone,
                          I am trying to find out who lived in Astley Terrace around 1908 to 1911.
                          I know the terrace was built for employees of the Midland & Great Northern Rly.
                          Does anyone know if there are any records anywhere of the M&G.N Rly which might include names of people living in Melton Constable at that time.
                         Or is it possible to find out from another source?

have you got the 1901 census.? I have a list of houses from 170to 174 as my wifes grandfather Bishop Green lived at 174, he moved to doncaster in 1905/6 but others will have stayed there as the workshops was still open.Bishop was a blacksmith in the workshops. I have tried on the net to get any history or people who were connected with the Midland and Great Northern railway but only the engineer in charge gets a mention.

                   I am afraid I have to correct you as regards the house that Bishop Green lived in.
                   You will find that you quoted the schedule numbers and not house numbers.
                   Astley Terrace was and still is numbered 1 to 12.Therefore he lived at number 3. No 3 entrance is the 2nd doorway to the right of the first downpipe,reading from left to right, on the enclosed picture.
                   I would say that the picture was taken early 1900's.
                   Looking across from my front room window it still looks very much the same now as it did then!!
                   I don't know whether you have birth record of Bishop or not.
It is Sept. Qtr. 1875 Erpingham 4b/71 and marriage record to Martha Neale is Sept. Qtr. 1896 Erpingham 4b/91.

Further to my reply I have been in to the Doncaster archives today and found out that Bishop green did not leave Astley terrace until feb 1911 so living at number 174 Astley Terr. in 1909 was Bishop Green his wife Martha and their children. Edgar Percival 12yrs, Hector Frank 10yrs,Eric William 9yrs,Gladys Margaret 8yrs, Eric 6yrs,Victor 5yrs and Cecil wifred 3yrs.

dear Ron thanks for your info you sent me.we both posted info at the same time yesterday so got out of sinc. I have bishops family history but the period 1901/1912 revolves around astley terr and the midland and great northern railway as very little info seems available. Any help would be appreciated thanks for the info you have given.

Hi was trawling the net and found this site and your messages re Bishop Green. Bishop Green was by great grandfather, his son Bishop Stanley Green was my grandfather and my mum is Kathleen. It was wonderful to see a photo of my great grand dad and Martha. He looks very much like my grandad. My cousin has too traced back to Edgefield in the 1700's if you have any more photos I would love to see them or any more info. Its been great to find out about Bishop and his family!
