Ideas on tracing four Staffordshire brothers, possibly gone to USA
« on: Monday 05 January 26 17:11 GMT (UK) »
Hello all and happy new year to you. A longshot but I wonder if anyone has any ideas about how to further trace four brothers from Staffordshire?

Herbert John Carnall (b1839), Henry (1840), Albert (1842) & Edmu/ond (1846), four brothers from Longton, Staffordshire. Parents James and Sarah Jane. They have other siblings but when trying to trace what happened to these four I'm struggling. They seem to vanish around the 1871 census, and their wives all later are living with their own relatives and then remarry.

I then found one article about Herbert John from 1872 saying he'd abandoned his wife and moved to the US. I'm trying to work out if the brothers all went together? Unfortunately I'm not finding much in the US.  I only have Ancestry and not sure how thorough that is for US records.

A longshot, like I said, but posting here in case anyone has any suggestions. Thank you!

Family Search has census and other records to check.
There is this Herbert Carnell in New Jersey in 1880

There are other family records for him.

Heywood - thank you, I will check out that tree in FamilySearch. Fingers crossed I can find them all somewhere in the US.

GC1 - there are a few family trees on Ancestry that have Herbert dying in the UK in the 1870s but none of those are him as when I check in GRO the ages are wrong. The 1872 one is a newborn, sadly. His wife is Emily Birch though.
