KATTERNS family
« on: Sunday 04 January 26 19:42 GMT (UK) »
Hello,
I'm looking for the birth/baptism of one John Brooke Katterns about 1808.
There is nothing in the usual suspects (PRs, BTs, Dr Williams etc) that I've been able to find. His year of birth was extrapolated from his age at death.

His father was one Daniel Katterns, born at Market Harborough, Leicestershire and baptized at the Independent Church there in 1771. He married Rebecca Brooke at St Brides, Fleet Street in 1792.

They had several children (with approx dates)
Daniel (1793-1795), Daniel (1795-), Samuel (1798-1800), Rebecca (1801-), John Brooke (1808-), Anna (1810-), Daniel (1813-) and Susanna (1818-1880).
Most were buried at Bunhill, so their records have been used to get ages and burial dates.

It seems that all the family were Baptists. As far as I can tell, this means that birth information was seldom recorded and baptisms were as adults and may not have been recorded.
Is this correct?

Are there any places where Baptist records may have been kept?

Thanks and regards, Keith Jeffery

There are no centralised baptism records as such.

Worth looking out for a second-hand copy of Geoffrey Breed - My Ancestors were Baptists, an old Society of Genealogists publication (probably now long out of print).

Meanwhile, you may find this page useful for background information and links ...
