Heywood , thank you for your help and spotting my error which came from a mixing different Mary Ann Alkers. The 1871 census info in post 1 is the one due to 2 year old Robert being resident.

That’s good that you have the correct Mary Ann.
Yes, I found them in 1871 as you say.
I am still not sure if you have followed my discoveries and reasoning. Apologies if you have.
Robert is still with Mary Ann Alker in 1881. I thought you would already have seen that and as I wrote, there is also the clue with her stepfather being there also.
Hopefully all is resolved now.
