Parents for John Cox (1802-1844) and Thomas Cox (1799-1850)
« on: Tuesday 30 December 25 21:13 GMT (UK) »
Hi all,
Wishing everyone here a very merry Christmas and a happy new year! I would like some help in reexamining a brick wall of mine, owing to a breakthrough I made that I still can't see the significance of. The man in question is Thomas Cox (1799-1850), who in Exeter in 1825 married Mary Jarman and had Mary Anne (1826-1834), James (1828-1830), Elizabeth (1830-1898), James (1833-1883) and Thomas (1839-1859). The breakthrough I am talking about is noticing that James in '71 is living in Exeter next to Emmanuel Cox (1852-1931). This is surely not a coincidence, and I traced Emmanuel to try and find a connection. Emmanuel was the son of Emmanuel Sr (1830-1902), in turn the son of John Cox (1802-1844), who appears in '41 in Exeter as a plasterer. He married Mary Ann Moxey (nee Binnear) in Exeter in 1822. The most likely relationship seems to be Thomas and John being brothers and hence James living next to his first cousin Emmanuel. The trouble is that I can't seem to find a good candidate baptism for them, which is why I am asking for a second look, which can always help in case I have missed something  ;)
Best wishes,
FG

James (1833-1883). The breakthrough I am talking about is noticing that James in '71 is living in Exeter next to Emmanuel Cox (1852-1931). This is surely not a coincidence, and I traced Emmanuel to try and find a connection.

Are these the couple you mention in 1871, I cannot find them in Exeter?

Yes, they are. The familysearch result is a mistranscription. They are actually in the parish of St Mary Major in Exeter, not in Devonport, as can be seen on the original scan on Ancestry
