My very good wishes to you all, for good health and comfort , friendship and support as we get older.
Thanks we are not in a war zone and for the support of RootsChatters
It gets us through a lot.
Pity RootsChat is not on prescription ———

Look after yourselves , we do not meet each other yet we are friends ,,everyone needs friends ,they are often more efficacious than drugs.
( That is my big word for this week- )
Seriously R,C.is like a drug, and I am seriously addicted , the  good thing is it does me no harm but a does do a lot of good !
Very best wishes everyone, and kind thoughts for better health for those unwell in any way.
Viktoria.

I think you are marvellous to keep up with it all the way you do Viktoria.

I have a small balcony, with 3 window boxes, but no garden, During Autumn I collected some  conkers, acorns and buck eye nuts which are now sprouting a little, in said window boxes
The acorns were kept moist n the fridge for a few weeks, as they must reach a very low temperature to sprout. II find it  exciting to observe progress daily.

Have a good weekend everyone. :)

I agree Mowsehowse - Viktoria, I too admire how you manage to keep up with it all.
It is lovely to see you posting again Mowsehowse.  Are you planning to grow trees eventually?

Thanks for your kind words LM, Caroline and Mark.  Mark I am sorry about what you went through.  It sounds like your employer was not very empathetic in response to your health issue.  I am glad that you won your case eventually.

It is very snowy here today and very cold.
I was asleep when New Year came but as expected was woken by the fireworks.  It was great to get a lift to and from work on New Year's day.  Unexpectedly, I did notice that this did help make me feel a bit less tired at the end of the day.  I could get used to that, if only.
Yesterday, was a day shift (only 8 hours) but tomorrow I will be on a 12 hour one again.  I hope the buses will run as normal with all this snow.  My forecast says sun for tomorrow but I don't know whether to believe it.

Hello All

I think we should celebrate just getting to 2026!

Regarding the weather this is the view from Tunstall East Yorkshire, today.

Blowing sleet and everything the weather could possibly blow!

The cliff edge is on the left and the Farmhouse on the right!

The lady of the photographer dressed like Shackleton made him abandon his walk!

Bbbbbrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Hello All.
RTL you enquired if I am planning to grow trees. (I do hope your hand injury is recovering.)
I would love it if I can nurture a real tree from a seed which happens in nature with no help from a human hand.

I was delighted to have an acorn which survived a couple of winters and put on leaves during Spring times, but last year my husband pruned off the new shoots, which may well have killed it. :'( I am hoping it will fight back in a few weeks. We shall see. I would like to guerrilla plant a hand reared sapling if I can sustain one that looks strong enough, and get permission.

Hope you’re successful MH… we grew a tree from a walnut seed left by a squirrel in the hope it would flourish , which it did it got to about 3ft and was going to be planted in our daughters garden.. then it suddenly died not sure why but the tub was full of ants so think that’s what did for it!
I like the idea of an urban guerrilla some folk work hard in the community to make it look attractive.

Nice to see you on here posting too.

Take care in this cold snap…
family decided to climb Pen y fan yesterday ..in pics sent back they looked freezing, rosy cheeks and weather beaten faces and muffled up to the eye balls.. boys age 10 & 12 felt sense of achievement! Back to reality tomorrow going to school!

Just wanted to wish everyone all the best for 2026.

Also thought this article was a bit of a coincidence based on discussions earlier in the thread

We've even got a sprinkling of snow down here in Devon ... and we're only a few miles away from the sea. :o  Although it's sunny, the sun still isn't melting the "snow", so I guess we are in for a very cold night.  I thought last night was the coldest so far, but we shall see what tonight brings.  Thank goodness for our electric blanket. :)

My car this morning was minus 5 degrees at 08.30, plenty of ice on the windscreen but thankfully no snow, looking out it  looks a beautiful day but with a bite.
My brother lives in  Teignmouth right on the seafront, I expect it is chilly there.
