JAMES SPEED WW1 1918
« on: Monday 29 December 25 22:05 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone help?
I am trying to find proof of burial for JAMES SPEED of Ballaghdereen, Castlerea who died on 31 Aug 1918. He died as a result of illness incurred while serving with the Royal Irish Regiment. He was aged just 18.
James was born at Ballaghdereen on 10 June 1899 to James and Margaret Speed (nee Regan)
His parents had married in the RC Church in Ballaghdereen on 2 Oct 1894. They had two other sons, John and Patrick.
James Speed (Sen) died in Castlerea Workhouse on 3 Feb 1905, aged 40. Margaret died in the County Home, Roscommon on 23 Feb 1945.
James (Jun) is entitled to War Grave commemoration - if proof of burial can be established.
Does anyone know where this young man is buried?
I would be grateful for any help.

Have you checked out Kilcolman Old and New Cemeteries on the R293 north-east of Ballaghaderreen town centre?

Any mention of his death notice in the local papers?
