Hi all . I have a question regarding my 8th G Grandfather Jacob de Rouffignac , a french Huguenot who came to the Uk as a refugee . On the Ancestry site it says Jacob was seeking poor relief in 1687 in London . So "Why would a religious Minister like Jacob need poor relief??". I;m sure someone well educated could find employment ?. In later years He did have work in Stanford le hope . Any ideas here . Thank you .

There a lot of information on the Huguenot society website about it. My Huguenots went to Lausanne but I also think maybe also London as there were a few Valets on the registers there.

Thanks to you all . I have seen the Huguenot society website and it is superb. My 8th g grandfather was a Huguenot , but as this goes so far back I don't think I have French genes...
