Birth 1761
« on: Sunday 28 December 25 09:29 GMT (UK) »
I have a baptism for a John Nicoll on 15th February 1761.
It reads "The which day Alexander Nicol in 'oard' of Elrick had a son baptized named John before the congregation.
Does anyone know what the word 'oard' means?
Thank you

There are several small locations named Elrick in Aberdeenshire.  Which parish are you in?
One appears to be a farmstead near the village of Alford.  Could it be a variation of Alford?

Hi,

Without seeing what is written, I would suggest here, as the baptism is in New Machar?

Ord of Elrick, the steading just south of the house.

      That pesky AI!

That is, steading, not steadying. Steading being the buildings on a farm ....

All so helpful.
Love the maps.
Many many thanks.

BTW - David Nicoll - hope you don't mind me asking.  Are you related to the Alexander Nicoll and Elisabeth Blair family line?
