Name change Dowsett to Langbridge

Hello,

Walter Thomas Smith and his wife Caroline Langbridge married in Wandsworth in 1888. They had 10 Children in the Birth District of Wandsworth. Two of the their children had mothers maiden name as DOWSETT. Elizabeth Rhoda born 1890 and Frederick Edwin born 1896. I have found out  that the family of Caroline Langbridge went by the name Dowsett in Census records.

George Langbridge/Dowsett born about 1837 in Stepney and his wife Elizabeth Rhoda born 1838 Bristol lived in Battersea in 1881, 1891 and 1901. Caroline Langbridge is listed as Dowsett in the 1881 Census in Battersea. The Family is always listed as DOWSETT.

Can someone help me to solve this mystery ? I always thought the surname is Langbridge  :-[

Was George Langbridge born illegitimate?  He may have been born Dowsett & his mother married Langbridge or vice versa

Can't find a baptism for a George Dowsett. I have a George Langbridge born Stepney 1839 son of Joseph and Elizabeth North. But the information are in my tree for years now and don't know where i got the information from

When did George & Elizabeth marry & what surname did he marry under - Dowsett or Langbridge?

What was his fathers name on the marriage cert?

Under what surname was Elizabeth's birth registered - Dowsett or Langbridge

Caroline was b Langbridge 1867 + mmn Burchall

George Langbridge/Lanbridge & Elizabeth Rhoda Burchell/Burchall married 1857

Have you tracked George back on earlier censuses?
