Patrick Quirk
« on: Saturday 27 December 25 11:25 GMT (UK) »
Hello,

I've never researched Ireland before so absolutely clueless.

I'm looking for a Patrick Quirk. (Needle in a haystack possibly)
He married Ethel Jane Corke in Doncaster in 1928. This is the only solid info I have.

Family rumour has it that he was swiftly (possibly illegally) removed from Ireland due to being set up by his brother who was an IRA member in a murder he didn't commit.

Where do I start in tracing Patrick and his roots and the story above?

Many thanks 😊

In 1939 Patrick said he was born 24 November 1905.  If he was born in Ireland then this is the only birth I can see, parents Moses and Kate, but you need to get Patrick's marriage certificate to find his father's name and occupation. He was a twin to Anastasia.

Parents' marriage, groom's first name is entered as Aiden but he signs as Moses.  Kate was a widow.

With the usual health warning about the accuracy of online trees, note that there are several of them on the "Ancestry" website, citing Mogue (Aidan-Moses) Quirke and Catherine (Kate) Cullen as the parents.  But in line with that health warning, you would need to do your own validation of the extensive information in them, before accepting same.

Quote
Catherine Cullen 1st marriage 3rd Sept 1894 to Garret Redmond.

Lizzie Redmond in 1911 census ( reply #4) incorrectly given as aged 11 months.... should be 11 years.

Eliza Redmond born 1 August 1899 at Ballykelly.

Electoral registers show a Patrick Quirk in 1926 in Askern.
He is living with two O’Keefe men.
If it is your man, it gives a bit of a time line.

I can’t see any mention in newspaper snippets which might have relevance.

Patrick's marriage certificate -
For this marriage the local BMD index gives "Thorne Register Office or Registrar Attended".  https://www.yorkshirebmd.org.uk/marriagesearch.php

In 1928 Thorne was a registration district whereas Askern was in Doncaster RD.  These are the places which were in Thorne RD: https://www.ukbmd.org.uk/reg/districts/thorne.html
