Byers 'Liddesdale' book
« on: Tuesday 23 December 25 16:37 GMT (UK) »
Does anyone have a copy of 'Liddesdale' by John Byers? If so, could someone tell me what the exact wording is of the five lines on page 150 that begins 'Henry, third Duke of Buccleuch...' and ends '...with which we are familiar today.'

Cheers,

Bob

Quote
Henry, third Duke of Buccleuch a highly respected gentleman by all accounts, like other great Scottish landlords at that time, resolved to clear away from his Liddesdale estates the small farms, crofts, cottars' houses and hamlets in order to establish the large sheep-farms with which we are familiar to-day.

Taken from the copy at archive.org:

Excellent, many thanks. I had a photocopy of the pages I was interested in, but those lines were obliterated due to tea stains!

Cheers,
