Jabez Britton, Grenadier Guards 22408, WW1 medal cards
« on: Saturday 13 December 25 15:29 GMT (UK) »
Can anybody tell me whether servicemen received more than one medal card?  My grandad served from January 1915 to 1920.  The only medal card I can find is stamped 1914-15 although it has been updated to show the award of the Victory medal and British medal.  It also shows the award of the 15 Star - theatre of war (1) France 5.10.15.  He fought in France and Flanders - were there separate medals for individual campaigns?  I ask because the 15 Star I take to be 1914-15 Star and I wondered if there were any later stars.
Thanks in advance,
Mel

There were two Star medals in WW1, the 1914 Star and the 1914-15 Star.

Before joining the Grenadier Guards, he had first volunteered for the Loyal North Lancs in September 1914 but was discharged after 66 days as being medically unfit (an ear defect).

Thank you all for your helpful replies.  I've looked at British Army WW1 Medal Records 1914-1920 and it confirms that my grandad would have received just the three medals shown on his card.
