My mother Mary Ann Gordon was baptised in either her own home, or her Grandfathers' as both Father and Grandfather were John Gordon of Killyrammer, Ballymoney, on 22nd April 1926.  I have viewed the microfiche in Coleraine Library for all details. Our family had a tradition of home baptisms, usually when the children were toddlers, and they did not have the baptism done in the family Church, Bushvale Presbyterian, near Stranocum, Ballymoney but frequently in the Grandfather's house.  Mum's baptism was entirely straightforward, though unusually done at two months old, but over the years we have been interested in the child born 3rd Dec 1925, named Margaret Jane Irwin Gordon with Irwin in brackets, who was baptised at the same time and location - her Father blank and her Mother noted with surname only - Irwin.  When Dec 2025 came round I looked up GRONI for her birth - and over a week in, no registration found.  We have no idea who she was - nobody knows of an aunt or cousin Margaret! We have no Irwins in our extensive family tree.  Unless she has exceeded her hundredth birthday, she will have passed on so I assume it is safe to seek info on her.  We'd always heard that Great Grandfather Gordon and his wife fostered children - probably was no legal status for such at the beginning of the 1900s, but they by this stage  were over sixty ,  and she was blind.  Any info on this lady appreciated.

I probably shouldn't say this but with  Irwins in Co Londonderrry or Co Antrim as possible forebears you are going to have hours of fun........I do say this as I am one!   :) ;)

What were the names (first/maiden surname) of your mother please?  Presumably XXXX Gordon?  Do you know her date of birth, as opposed to her baptism? Presumably about Feb 1926 if she was about 2 months old when baptised?

Often Peggy was used as a diminutive for Margaret so relatives may have known someone called Peggy.

As on first post - Mary Ann Gordon born - wait for it - either 24th or 26th Feb 1926, parents couldn't quite remember!  Look forward to seeing her birth reg too in due course.  Yes, to search for a Margaret Irwin is like looking for a needle in a haystack!
