Commonwealth War Graves Commission are appealing for blood relatives of Lance Corporal William Urquhart - Seaforth Highlanders - died 21/4/1917 - buried Balgay Cemetery - Dundee.

The private memorial marking the grave of Lance Corporal Urquhart does not provide adequate commemoration, the Commission are in the process of producing a new headstone to mark his grave.

DEATHS

Lance-Corporal William Urquhart, Seaforth Highlanders, died in Hospital, London, 21st April, from wounds received in action on Easter Monday, aged 24 years, only son of Robert Urquhart, 65 Victoria Road, Dundee (late of Pittenweem)

William initially served under the number S/8058   then 5011 and finally under 267381 in ranks Pte and latterly L/Cpl.  He was wounded with Gunshot Wound to left foot on 7 Nov 1915 evacuated via Ambulance Train No 11 then HM Hospital Ship St. George.  He died  in April 1917 and lies in Balgay cemetery, Dundee.  He was the son of Robert McRobert Urquhart and Emily (nee Todd)  Emily who died 1909 of Victoria Road.  Robert Urquhart subsequently married Esther Cowan Gray in 1919. It is thought he may have served variously in 8th and 6th Bns of the Seaforths.
