Margaret Ballantyne 1882 -
« on: Wednesday 03 December 25 21:41 GMT (UK) »
Hi - I am looking for Margaret Ballantyne. She was born in Denny Stirlingshire in 1882. She moved to Buckhaven as a child with her father Thomas Ballantyne, mother Margaret Jenkins and siblings. In 1906 she married Robert Deas Walker in Buckhaven and their son Robert Ballantyne Walker was born in Scoonie in April 1908. Robert Deas died in June 1908 at Leven. I can't find out what happened to Margaret and Robert Ballantyne after the death of Robert Deas. I have looked through as many Scottish records I can find. I really would appreciate some help with this.

According to a report in the 'Fifeshire Advertiser' of 13 May 1939, Robert Ballantyne Walker, eldest son of Mrs F MacRae and the late Mr Robert Walker, manager of Leven Co-Operative Society, married Miss Wilhelmina (Minnie) Taylor in Krugersdorp, South Africa.

One of the bridesmaids was Miss Margaret MacRae, and she wore a different style of dress from the other bridesmaids, which may possibly suggest that she was of a different age group from the other two, perhaps still a child.

Margaret Ballantyne married Finlay MacRae in Edinburgh in 1921.

Robert Ballantyne Walker died in South Africa in 1966. See https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-C9BB-R3XD-5?view=index&personArk=%2Fark%3A%2F61903%2F1%3A1%3ADX51-W36Z&action=view&cc=3732506&lang=en&groupId=M964-1VT

Ah, I wondered why I couldn't find that. His name is indexed as Wacker, which is a variant of Walker that hadn't occurred to me - or a mistranscription.

I have found a marriage for Margaret on 6th May 1915 in Glasgow to a John B MC Gunn who was a soldier in WW1. His mother was a single woman called Lizzie Gunn and he was born in 1889. I think he was fostered by a family who has Francis Main as the head and he is with him on the both the 1891 and 1901 censuses. Margaret is a widow by 1921 when she marries Finlay Macrae. She also applies for John Gunn's (and he also goes by John Main) WW1 pension. I am assuming John died in WW1, but I cant find a death that matches him. Can anyone see what I have missed?
