You have found the answer!  That is undoubtedly the right man. I will now pursue Oldham Council for the Burial Register.

My thanks to you both -this find is down to you.

I will now pursue Oldham Council for the Burial Register.

But why do you need to?
The burial is actually indexed on FamilySearch.
Fred Mellor, buried 31 May 1920, Royton, Oldham
Age 41

With link to the images of the actual burial register

Graves register for 1e 1524 confirms a burial in it on 31 May 1920
Originally purchased bySamuel Mellor in 1890

Quality of downloaded image of register very poor - almost illegible. Oldham will provide.

That's good, Jen.
Hopefully they will be good enough if Oldham won't play ball.
