Lumley family in Lanchester
« on: Monday 01 December 25 15:18 GMT (UK) »
Robert Lumley (1742-1806) married Mary Wheatley (c1740-1799) According to their gravestone inscription they had 7 children of which 3 died as children and all four of the others died as adults but all were dead by the age of 37.  The adult deaths were in Lanchester, Edinburgh, London and Jamaica but all were recorded here.

However, they also had 2 other children but neither is mentioned on the gravestone and I can find only their baptisms with no other details anywhere.

They were: George Lumley, baptised 29th January 1767 and Robert Lumley, baptised 23rd July 1776.

I have no other definite information but it is possible that Robert Lumley was the father of Christopher Lumley who was born c1803 and baptised in Lanchester in May 1806.  At the time of his birth, the family lived and farmed at Witton Gilbert which is very close to Lanchester.

Can anyone please help with details of the two "extra" children - George and Robert.  Many thanks.

So in that will George Wheatley of St Martin in the Fields said that if he died in London he desired to be buried at Stanmore in Middlesex.
Was he then the George Wheatley buried at Great Stanmore, 30 December 1798
Abode London

In 1840 at Great Stanmore there is a burial of a George Lumley, age 73.
Could that be his nephew?

Age at Death (in years): 73
