Yes KG very conspicuous by his absence! I noted here at the end of October he hadn't been on line since he had mentioned in late September that his surgery was scheduled early October and thought that perhaps he had gone to stay with one of his girls afterwards. He'll have a full inbox from everyone understandably concerned, I didn't send a pm via RC as he wasn't about and also unsure if he has notifications turned on or not  :-\

Summery forecast, a twilight market later today up the main street between shops and beach and a gypsy fair setting up today for the weekend in the park opposite the end of our road.

Get-togethers to finish the year and festive greetings, few cards though and from me as well now too these days. A bit of festive baking planned and fairly organised with purchases and a filled hamper to deliver on the weekend.
A funeral to go to Saturday morning, the first lay teacher I had at the convent school who was still teaching there when our children attended and each taught by her with the school having nearly all lay teachers by then. She also had family at the school and then grandchildren, some method in her thinking when she sat me next to her older daughter in class as we had to same first name and she only had to say it the once if not paying attention or whatever  :D Her younger daughter played the organ at our wedding and she herself was in demand as an organist. A full life, on her own once widowed and moved into a close by retirement village and company of many friends.

Happy weekend all ...

Oh, Mare
All those things we have collected over the years, but it comes to the point when we have to start getting rid of them, otherwise our children will have the job.  I'm not a hoarder, but I just can't bring myself to let my mother's piano go.  I play a little myself, but she would play often and accompany choirs.  When we were little she would play after we had gone to bed and we would call down requests and then fall asleep with the sound of the piano lulling us to sleep.  Who wants a piano these days?  Keyboards are so much easier and can be moved around, as they are so light.

Small ornaments and silver items, nice table linen and so on.  I don't think our children will want them.  Even our Victorian and Edwardian furniture is not to their taste and probably wouldn't fetch much at auction.  My son likes classic modern (Charles Eames chair, etc.) and my daughter goes for Scandinavian modern.  We don't have any of either.

Gloomy day today, but tomorrow is the church Christmas Fair (or should I say Fayre?) and there will be lots of handmade items for stocking fillers, also hampers to be won with the Grand Raffle. A regular bun fight!  Soup and a scone will be served at lunch time.

I think it's time to put our Christmas decorations up.  We have brought them down from the attic, so now we must get down to the job, but not until I have had a good clean round.  Not much chance to do that once the decorations and cards are up.  Brass and copper things need a good polish, too, to reflect the light.  There should be plenty of berried twigs and branches around this year, if the birds haven't eaten them yet, however we have not seen many birds in our garden this winter.  They are usually clustering round the bird table, but we wonder if a number of prowling cats who appear in the garden sometimes are responsible for the lack of birds.

Just thinking back to my childhood again (sorry) when we had a rather bald small imitation Christmas tree to which we attached little candles.  These were lit by my father every night and had to be blown out if no one was in the room.  Christmas was always spent at our grandparents' seaside bungalow with Christmas Dinner at my aunt's, the highly polished table beautifully set with gleaming silver and lace table mats, sparkling glass and delicate china.  There were table presents, too, a lacy monogrammed handkerchief for me one time, which I still have and rarely use, as it is too delicate for everyday use.  I had it as my "something old" at my wedding.

Cardiology appointment this morning at Bath RUH at 10.15. How do I make the journey. The RUH car parks are notoriously full from dawn to dusk and so the alternative method was to drive from Radstock into the P&R at Odd Down (the opposite side of the city from RUH) to the hospital via the city centre.
So I started of extraordinarily early at 8.15 anticipating lots of traffic by the time I got to P&R, but no, not today, straight through so I had then to wait for about half an hour for the next  bus to the RUH. Appointment 10.15- bus leaves P&R 9.15 and struggles through the city centre via the bus station and then onward to the hospital.
I arrived at reception 10.05 (top floor) and was seen almost immediately. and back out to the bus stop in less than half an hour, and then the crawl back through the city centre and on to P&R.
Full marks to bus company for getting me there on time and for NHS for not having to wait more than a couple of minutes before seeing the doctor.  Back home by lunchtime, by which time the rain had arrived. rj

This might be a completely  bonkers thing to bring up, but having noticed  the absence  of KGarrard  and we are all concerned,  it has made me think, so I am hoping to have a word with my family that if I am absent from the message board that they leave a message, just in case I am missed !!

Of course you will be missed LM  :).  That sounds like a really good idea to get family to leave a message on here.

You would be very much missed L.M.

Teeming down all day here.
.Postie took my already stamped cards for me ,just the
neighbours’ to deliver, and those for Belgium at the P.O.to be weighed etc.

‘I put fewer and fewer decorations up each year ,this house is half the size of my previous one .
A tiny little tree, pre lit with a couple of very old precious decorations always on it among newer ones. The Crib ,now almost sixty years old, bought in Gent the first Christmas we were there.1965.
Well hope we hear from KGarrard soon and that all is well.
You have to be in good health, R.J.to get to appointments re ill health!
What an exhausting day for you.
Well a cup of tea and tidy up and an early night I think.
Look after  yourselves folks.

Viktoria.

RJ, you must have felt exhausted  by the time you got home.

We had a bit if a surprise out of the blue today, 2 weeks ago my husband had a check up for cataracts,  because he is having having both done together he is having a general anaesthetic , so scheduled for 29th, a real surprise  as we were told well  into  next year, think my husband is in a bit of a shock.

Been a very cold lousy evening , nice to be shut up in the warm.

Sleep tight those heading towards bedtime.
