Some Ancestry links showing white page.
« on: Thursday 27 November 25 16:43 GMT (UK) »
I'm on the trail of the married-in family of my great great grandfather and on one Ancestry page, there is the usual selection of little icons and links on a banner down the right hand side.

Clicking on some of these links brings up the appropriate page but on clicking others, I get an Ancestry page with the usual header and footer but the main page is just white. For example I can open a Census for 1950 but can't open Census pages for other years - 1920, 1830, 1940. I can look at a marriage document but can't open a death document.

I've tried Edge browser as well as my usual Chrome but it's the same. There's isn't a way to flag this up to Ancestry.

Any suggestions?

Try these:
1. Clear cache and cookies.
2. Try opening the pages on tablet / phone / someone else's laptop - if you can, it's something on your laptop.
3. If you can't open them on your tablet / phone either, check your subscription. If you have the right current sub, ring Ancestry.  0800 7831340, if you're UK.
4. If it's just your laptop, if you have an adblocker, turn that off for Ancestry - it doesn't like them. Or try turning off something called hardware acceleration. Don't know where that will be in Chrome, I'm afraid, you'll have to google it.

Hope one of these will help!

Thanks. I'll try those suggestions.

Just one point. I do not have worldwide subscription - just UK and Ireland. I often get a pop up page asking me to purchase the nessary extra to view certain USA/Canada records pages. That's to be expected and I'm used to it.

But oddly in this case I'm able to see USA based information without the pop up appearing and on those pages where I get a white screen, I don't get a pop up.

So I've no idea why I'm able to view some USA pages in the first place, never mind being able to view some but not others (without a pop up).

An update.

I haven't tried anything else but I tried it on my ipad and I get exactly the same thing.

Then, back on my Win10 laptop I noticed something about the web addresses I was seeing in the address bar.

When I click on a link that works, I get an address that begins like:

https://www.ancestry.co.uk/search/collections/1114/……...

But when I click on one that produces a mostly blank screen I get:

https://www.ancestry.co.uk/offers/join?dbid=61255&gsfn&gsln&h=……….

So it looks like Ancestry is trying to present the Offer screen, to ask me to upgrade my subscription, but it's broken.

Odd that I can see some pages outside of my subscription type but not others.

Next is for me to go to the local library and see if I can get those links to work there.
