Yesterday was definitely a cake day here! I've said before that nothing happens in our village without cake, but yesterday was a bit over the top.
A charity coffee morning started the day off with luscious cakes of all kinds. People took home extra slices to eat later in the day and there were books for sale, old and new. I bought two paperbacks. I couldn't resist them and when I have read them they will go on to a charity shop.
In the afternoon there was a memorial service for a friend's husband, who died recently. This was followed by "light refreshments" in the local pub. This meant sandwiches, scones with clotted cream and jam and, of course, more cake.
In the evening we went to an informal concert given by our choir director and her partner, who sing modern folk music. In the interval there were hot drinks and, you've guessed it, more home made cake.
We usually weigh ourselves every Sunday morning and I stepped on the scales fearing the worst, but was amazed to find that I had actually lost about one pound since last week. How did that happen? I'm trying to lose a bit of weight before Christmas, in anticipation of some rather hefty food and lots of chocolates. I do wish I didn't have a sweet tooth!
