David

it will be interesting!

I will check at the German passenger lists next week when I am at "Genie" as it does have a record of an Ernst arriving with in 1854.

For now, I have changed my Ernst in my database as "Fostered"

and I still haven't worked out how "Friedrich" comes to South Australia by all accounts  and marries here before his wife's death!

Again

Thanks for taking the time to look at this little family!

Hi Cheran, have you looked at Trove for arrivals? It's a free site,
My family arrived from Holstein also in 1849, via Hamburg.
They came on the "Australia".
Maybe you could check the passenger list?
Chris

Chris   I haven't too much joy on Trove but I did find Friedrich's sister and her husband
Heinrich and Regina Jahn (Regina Margaretha Katherina Wiese) arrived on the Australia in 1855 they came as a married couple but married a month after their  5 March 1855 arrival on the 10th April 1855 at Holy Trinity North Terrace.

I can see the record I was looking for:

 Household members
Name   Age
Ludw. H. E. Wiese
Wiese
Ernst Wiese

another mystery....Friedrich possibly has a brother  Ludwig Heinrich Engal born about 1810 but I can't see any records so far in South Australia.....

on the marriage record Ernst records his father as Friedrich so I am probaby getting 2 families mixed up!

The 'Iserbrook' arrived in Adelaide from Hamburg on 14th March 1854.  The passenger manifest only lists 'Wiese'.  Passengers arriving as couples or families are numbered as 'Schmidt 2', etc so it appears this Wiese was alone.  He would of been 9 years old so perhaps there were relatives or friends also on board.

bitzar.

EDIT:  I have also checked Adelaide incoming vessels from Germany/Danmark from 1845-1851 and no one stands out Friedrich Wiese.  There are 2 single men with that surname and also probably a third with wrongly transcribed surname.
