Button identification

My mum has been going through a box full of buttons that she's inherited from various of her/our ancestors and she's come across this intriguing little button. Google thinks it's something to do with the Grenadier Guards but I think that might be its AI doing its thing. I was hoping the RootsChatters would have more info.

Immediate relatives whose military service is known:

- my grandad who served in WWII in the middle east and later in Italy
- my great grandad who was in the Manchester 12th battalion and sadly met his end in 1917
- another great grandad who made it through WWI and was "involved in a lot of the big battles"
- another great grandad who was pretty young when WWI started but is marked as "corporal, Scots Guards" on his marriage certificate from May 1918

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

I am afraid that it is not a British Army button.

Are there any markings on the rear of the button?
The shape of the crown is not typical for British Royalty.

The intials look like S L G

Could it be a livery button from a servant's uniform? Agree initials look like SLG.

Think I just went down the military road because it looks military (to me) and Google suggested it was.

As others have said, I'm pretty sure it says SLG but we don't have any ancestors with those initials. Like so much else in my genealogy research it looks like it'll stay a mystery for now.

If it is a livery button the initials will belong to the employer. Not sure, but is it a ducal coronet?
