Date of Birth on Death Index
« on: Saturday 22 November 25 11:17 GMT (UK) »
I'm in the process of going through some of my tree looking for deaths after 2007 as Ancestry seems to be adding them piecemeal.   They're not publishing the GRO index but one that includes date and place of death (including part postcode)

In the last few weeks I've had three where the date of birth shown is wrong.  I've now realised that these dates, although in the format 1 Apr 1960 must be stored in US date format and then published as UK format.   The most recent one I've found was for a lady whose date of birth was shown as 4 Sep 1914 but actually was born 9 Apr 1914.

I'm going to drop a note to Ancestry to see whether the can identify where the problem is occurring.

The problem is widespread and occurs in the similar NI & Scotland index too DoB's and Date of Deaths. The collection is a compilation from undertakers etc and only some are wrong. If unsure check the similar collection on Findmypast as all theirs seem to be correct UK format. Has been commented about on Rootschat before. I wouldn't waste time advising Ancestry, you will get thanks & platitudes but no action, they have been notified about it before eg.
